Definitions
The Graduating Senior Survey is a locally developed survey administered every three years to those seniors planning on graduating during the current academic year. The item "Which of the following different types of faculty-student mentoring experiences have you had during the past two years at NC State: Worked on an extension or public service project with a faculty member outside of course or program requirements" is asked of all participants.

Definitions
The Collaborative on Academic Careers in Higher Education (COACHE) Survey is a national survey in which NC State participates every three years. All full-time tenure track and professional track faculty are invited to participate in the survey. The item "How satisfied are you with the recognition you receive for your: Outreach (e.g., extension, community engagement, technology transfer, economic development, K-12 education)" was asked of all participants. Those selecting the "Decline to answer" or "Not applicable" response options are excluded from the analysis.

Date Ranges
- A fiscal year (FY) is a one-year period used for financial reporting and budgeting that starts July 1st and ends June 30th of the following calendar year. For example, 2020-21 fiscal year date range reflects Summer II 2020, Fall 2020, Spring 2021, Summer I 2021.
- An academic year (AY) consists of sequential Fall, Spring, and Summer I, and Summer II terms. For example, 2020-21 academic year date range reflects Fall 2020, Spring 2021, Summer I 2021, and Summer II 2021.
- A calendar year (CY) is a one-year period starting January 1st and ending December 31st. For example, 2020 calendar year date range reflects Spring 2020, Summer I 2020, Summer II 2020, Fall 2020.
- For student metric purposes (e.g. Enrollment Profile Headcount), Fall is the Fall census snapshot, which is two weeks after the first day of classes. For employment metric purposes (e.g. Faculty Headcount), Fall is the October payroll snapshot, which is October 31st.
