Definitions
Count of students enrolled for credit as of fall census. In scenarios where a student is seeking multiple degree types, they are reported by the highest degree level (e.g. a student seeking a master's degree and a graduate certificate would be reported as master's). Students not enrolled in a degree or certificate granting program are classified as 'non-degree seeking'.
In accordance with Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) reporting standards, students not enrolled for credit are excluded, with the exception of students engaged in graduate thesis work or co-op rotations as part of their degree requirements.
Undergraduate student headcount: Count of students enrolled for credit as of fall census whose primary academic program confers a bachelor's, associate's, or undergraduate certificate; or are enrolled as undergraduate non-degree seeking students. Reported according to IPEDS methodology.
Graduate student headcount: Count of students enrolled for credit as of fall census whose primary academic program confers a master's, doctoral-research/scholarship, doctoral-professional practice, or graduate certificate; or are enrolled as a graduate non-degree seeking student. Reported according to IPEDS methodology.

Definitions

Doctoral-research/scholarship: A Ph.D. or other doctor's degree that requires advanced work beyond the master's level, including the preparation and defense of a dissertation based on original research, or the planning and execution of an original project demonstrating substantial artistic or scholarly achievement.

Definitions
The Baccalaureate Alumni Survey is a locally developed survey administered every three years to those who graduated 2.5 to 4.5 years prior to the survey (e.g., the population for the Spring 2021 survey included those who graduated summer 2015 though spring 2018). The item "Please rate your preparation by NC State for the graduate program from which you received your degree" was asked of all those having completed a graduate/professional degree, and "Please rate your preparation by NC State for the graduate program in which you are currently enrolled" was asked of all those enrolled in a graduate/professional degree program at the time they completed the survey. The Strategic Plan metric was created by combining these responses. If a respondent had completed a degree and was currently enrolled, their responses for their completed degree was retained.

Definitions
The Collaborative on Academic Careers in Higher Education (COACHE) Survey is a national survey in which NC State participates every three years. All full-time tenure-track and professional track faculty are invited to participate in the survey. The item "Please rate your level of satisfaction with the following: The support your institution has offered you for improving your teaching" was asked of all participants. Those selecting the "Decline to answer" or "Not applicable" response options are excluded from the analysis.
